The relationship with Mr. Uemura, a two Michelin starred chef, goes a long way back. The most recent collaboration with him was the exhibition at the Japanese embassy in London 2015 the theme of ‘Creating beauty in collaboration’. At the exhibition, Toru exhibited many works including three special types of glass ware, Chill, Colour and Grow. The idea of ‘Grow’ was that this glass table ware evolves in time. The specially designed glass table ware to serve Japanese winter crab went back to Toru’s studio after every winter. Over 3 years it was evolved to reach its final design. As a result, the regular customers to Uemura’s restaurant always got a pleasant surprise which has always been Uemura’s biggest motivation, as well as Toru’s.
